Martin Road Elementary students participated in their annual Spring Walkathon on Friday, June 17th. This event was made extra special as it was combined with their first ever Kids Run, which is sponsored by Independent Health. Martin Road Elementary was able to host their own Kids Run because they are a participating Fitness for Kids Challenge school. Students wore race bibs as they lapped the school with teachers, parent volunteers, and community members from the Lackawanna Police and Fire Departments. As students crossed the finish line, they received a medal for their effort.
It was a beautiful day for a wonderful cause. The Walkathon/Kids Run is designed to help promote physical activity and healthy food choices, but this was also a fundraiser for the Martin Road Elementary PTA. Students were encouraged to bring in coins each day for a week to contribute to the PTA. The PTA would like to thank our students and their families for their contributions. The school raised just over $600.00! This year’s winning grade is 3rd grade! They will be treated to ice cream during lunch. Students who contributed $1.00 on Friday received an entry into a special drawing for a new pair of sneakers. This year's winner is Lance Rosenow. Congratulations Lance!
Thank you to the Martin Road PTA, teachers, parent volunteers, and first responders for making this event such a success for our students.
