Martin Road Elementary held an important assembly to recognize their recent achievement of being recognized for the MLK Leaders are Readers Award. This award was created by the New York State Governor and Project FLIGHT to celebrate schools that embody the values of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and promote literacy, serve diverse communities and inspire young readers to embrace the joy of learning.
Our guests from Project FLIGHT were treated to songs and music from our students to welcome them to our district and to thank them for their generous contribution to our school. Leaders from Project FLIGHT had the opportunity to speak to our students about the importance of literacy and reading, and its impact in our local community, citing our students as the change-makers of tomorrow and emphasizing the need to be properly prepared.
Through Project FLIGHT's donation, Martin Road received a plethora of books that our students were able to choose from.
Thank you to our NYS Governor Kathy Hochul and Project FLIGHT for making this opportunity possible for our students!
