Last month, Zoey Cassick was presented with the first “Westy” Award for the Lackawanna Middle School. This was awarded to a student who is always helping others, even when no one else is watching. Someone who goes above and beyond even if there are no “prizes” attached to doing the right thing and who helps people just because they are a giving and caring person.
Raymond “Westy” Westpfahl was a military veteran who was credited with saving 187 lives throughout his brave military actions. His dedication to helping others did not stop when he left the military. He continued his life of selflessness by volunteering and being a member of many military and hunting clubs. He was always there to help others in need, even if they didn’t ask. The award was presented by Raymond Westpfahl's daughter, Kellie Marianni, and the plaque is proudly displayed in the main office.
