Teacher works with students in the classroom.

Our 5th-grade students in Ms. Booth's class are putting their dictionary skills to the test! This week, they tackled unfamiliar words by using traditional print dictionaries and digital tools to find definitions, pronunciation and word origins.

Working with a partner, students collaborated to look up words, discuss their meanings, and use them in sentences. This teamwork encouraged discussion, problem-solving and deeper understanding of vocabulary.

Through this engaging activity, students not only expanded their vocabulary but also honed essential research and critical thinking skills. In today’s digital world, knowing how to effectively find and evaluate word meanings helps students navigate online resources with confidence and accuracy. Strong dictionary skills also support better reading comprehension and communication—valuable tools for lifelong learning.

Great job, 5th graders—keep up the word work!
