At Martin Road Elementary, we are helping students become stronger writers with the RADD strategy, an effective method for crafting clear, complete, and well-supported responses in their writing. RADD stands for "Restate, Answer, Detail, Detail." Students use this strategy to restate the question, answer the question and provide two details from the text to support the answer. Fourth grade students in Miss Blaszkowiak's class use the RADD strategy along with a color-coding system to practice writing constructed responses to questions from a text. Miss Blaszkowiak demonstrated the RADD strategy for her students. The class then practiced the strategy and shared their responses before independently completing a constructed response answer using the RADD strategy. By using the RADD strategy, our students are developing stronger writing skills, building confidence in their responses, and preparing for success in both academics and beyond.
