Teacher instructs students about fractions.

This week, our third-grade mathematicians in Ms. Courtney's class are using known multiplication facts for 1, 2 and 5 to learn multiplication facts for 3, 4 and 6. To solve a harder multiplication equation, students broke apart one factor into a lesser number to make two easier multiplication equations.

Students can make equal groups, also known as arrays, to help with multiplication. An array is a set of objects arranged in equal rows and equal columns. You can practice creating arrays at home by using pennies, buttons, or M & M's, arranging these items into equal groups, and then solve the equation.

Keep up the good work Martin Road!
