Students work on math in class

Our fourth-grade mathematicians in Mr. Froese's class are learning how to solve one-step word problems using multiplication and division, which is a real-world skill. Students worked through a variety of strategies such as creating arrays and writing equations to solve the word problems.

Did you know that you can practice this skill at home with your child? Find 40 small objects such as buttons, paper clips, or buttons.

Using the objects, ask your child to make an array. Take turns making up and solving word problems about the array. Each time, have your child say an equation to describe the problem. Ask your child to say whether they used multiplication or division to solve the problem.
