No Cell Phone Policy
The Lackawanna City School District is excited to announce the implementation of a new "no cell phone/electronics" policy starting in the 2024-2025 school year. This initiative aims to create an optimal learning environment for all students, emphasizing the district's commitment to academic excellence and student well-being.
To support this policy, the district will provide secure, lockable phone bags for all students. At the beginning of the school day, students will place their mobile phones in these bags, which will be securely locked and remain in their possession throughout the day. The bags will be unlocked at the end of the school day, allowing students to use their phones outside of school hours.
Research consistently shows that restricting cell phone use during school hours leads to significant improvements in both academic performance and student behavior. By minimizing distractions, the district hopes to help students focus more effectively on their studies and engage more deeply in classroom activities. Additionally, reducing screen time during the school day supports better mental health and overall well-being.
LCSD understands that this significant change requires the cooperation and support of all families. The district emphasizes the importance of parents discussing the new rule with their children and encouraging them to embrace it as a positive step toward their academic and personal growth.
It is important to note that any student who does not adhere to the "no cell phone/electronics" policy will be in violation of the District's Student Code of Conduct, with consequences applied accordingly based on the nature of the infraction.
To ensure the success of this policy, LCSD invites parents and guardians to attend one of the upcoming Town Hall Meetings to learn more about the policy and share their thoughts and feedback. The meeting will be held on Thursday, August 29, at 6:00 p.m. in the High School cafeteria.
LCSD appreciates the understanding and support of the community as it works together to create a more focused and productive educational environment for all students.
