Message from the Superintendent

Dear Families:

With our $27 million Capital Project nearing completion, I would like to make you aware that we will be reviewing all options to present you, the community, an opportunity for future capital projects. As a School District and community, we need to continually update, improve and maintain all of our buildings and grounds.

During the 2018-2019 school year, our District became a Community Eligible Program (CEP) District. This program provides breakfast and lunch to all enrolled students at no cost to our families, and it is a huge success. For this program to continue, we need completed forms from each family. I implore you to complete the CEP form on this website and please send it to your children’s Principal. Also, we started receiving our initial iPads, STEAM Kits (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) and training for our teachers through our partnership with WOZ U. Now that Truman Elementary and Martin Road Elementary have areas of Wi-Fi installed, I am excited for the students and teachers to start using this technology.

Considering your overwhelming approval of our School Budget and our advocacy in Albany for more funding, we are able to provide the following new initiatives for the 2019-2020 school year:

•
Increase in early intervention for our Truman and Martin Road Elementary students.
• Increase of our contractual bus fleet by two (2) busses, which will lower the student ratio per bus.
• Truman Elementary will have door-to-door drop-off and pick-up service.
• A Minority Group Specialist (Community Liaison) District-wide.
• The Middle and High School will see an increase in Speech, Science, Physical Education, Music and ENL (English as a New Language) sections. There are six (6) new clubs/organizations being offered to our students based on various interests that they have shown. In addition, we are looking to add 1-2 new sports offerings.
• We are in conversation with several Colleges and Universities to forge strong partnerships.

In closing, I believe we are fortunate to be a part of a community that places such a high value on investing in our students and schools. While we continue to work diligently for your child and our community, we ask you to be an active partner with us as we move our District forward.

Steeler Pride!

Sincerely,

Keith E. Lewis
