Students take virtual field trip to Buffalo Naval Park
Posted on 06/25/2021
""The site of the final virtual field trip of 2020-21 for Martin Road Elementary School fifth-graders was the largest inland naval park in the country. The Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park features four decommissioned Naval vessels that served in a variety of military conflicts in our nation’s history, including the USS Little Rock and USS The Sullivans.

Mrs. McDonald and Mrs. Kwiatkowski toured and narrated this virtual experience for their fifth-grade students. The virtual experience included a tour of Monuments Garden. The students viewed the various monuments honoring lifetimes of service in all branches of the U.S. Military. Featured monuments included the Iraq-Afghanistan Monument, Vietnam Memorial, Purple Heart Memorial, and Hispanic and Latino Memorial. It will be the future home of the African American Veterans Monument. This will be the nation’s first monument to honor the service of African American veterans. This park is a great tribute to those that have served in the military and so fitting for the students to virtually participate in close to the Memorial Day holiday.
