Students with paper chainUsing the "Connect Kids to Parks" grant, five different school districts from Erie County teamed up at Beaver Island State Park for "Healthy District Initiative - Wellness in the Park Day."

The middle school students had the opportunity to rotate through four wellness stations - Community Service, Global Cafe with Mickey Kearns, Get Active and Kindness Rocks. As they made their way through the stations, the teams made new friends, engaged in community service, shared their concerns and ideas, did some fun physical activities, made kindness rocks with messages to future park visitors and created a chain of positivity, linking every student.

The event was coordinated by the Office of Erie County Clerk Michael P. Kearns, the Wellness Institute of Greater Buffalo, Lackawanna, Buffalo, Kenmore-Tonawanda, West Seneca and Orchard Park School Districts, in partnership with NYS Connect Kids to Parks, Mental Health Advocates of Western New York and Youth Advantage.
