Outdoor structures coming to Martin Road thanks to Lowe's grant

GazeboFaculty and staff at Martin Road Elementary School were thrilled to learn they received a $5,000 grant from Lowe's Home Improvement Center!

Martin Road Elementary plans on using this grant to purchase an outdoor gazebo, greenhouse, composter, rain barrels, storage shed and various gardening tools. This will allow the inner courtyard to come alive with organically grown fruits and vegetables and children enjoying them as they read and tend to the garden beds.

These structures will serve as outdoor classrooms and will be built during Steeler Service Day in May. Students will also plant vegetable plants, prune berry bushes and build more raised beds, all of which are donated by Cornell Cooperative Extension.

A very special thanks to Mr. Fred Hahn, principal; Maria Flanigan, the district grant writer; and Sandy Carroccia, 5th grade teacher and garden caretaker! Martin Road would also like to thank Lowe's Home Improvement Center for making this happen!
