This rewarding experience was the culmination of the “Hockey Scholars” program presented by the National Hockey League, the NHL Players' Association and an educational technology company named EVERFI.

For six weeks, students participated in an engaging and interactive online educational tool that leverages the sport of hockey to explore foundational math and science concepts. Participation in the 12 computer modules earned them the chance to participate in the field trip, which helped students to make connections between New York State Core Curriculum standards in Science and Math and their lives outside of school. Real-life applications were presented, such as the engineering of skates, sticks and padding for ideal performance, the calculation of ice surface area and volume, and the relationship between endurance and the human circulatory system.

The students enjoyed the program and had a great time on the trip!
