Every new school year brings the excitement of students experiencing a new grade level, new teachers and new friends. At Martin Road Elementary, the 2018-19 school year also began with a new administrative team of Mr. Frederick Hahn as Building Principal and Mr. Matteo Anello as Assistant Principal. With over 40 years of educational experience between the two of them, they are both very excited to bring new ideas and events to Martin Road Elementary.
An area of focus this year at Martin Road are the new behavioral incentive programs that are in place. When you walk through the front foyer of the building, you can see that the students are wrapped in as many positives as possible. With Student of the Month Awards, a Discipline Free Wall, Honor Roll Wall, a “Steeler Strong Character” Board and a Student Behavior Competition Wall, the students have many opportunities for their positive behavior, character and academic abilities to be showcased. The results were very impressive to begin the school year as over 93 percent of the students were showcased on the “Discipline Free Wall.”
Another area within the school that has seen tremendous success is the school’s Parent Teacher Association. The PTA and administration have joined forces and already have the highest membership rate in years. The success can be attributed to the PTA’s eagerness to sponsor the Student of the Month program and also the fundraising done by the PTA that will be allocated to field trips and special events for the students. The PTA also played a major role in Martin Road’s Open House and food truck event, which drew well over 600 participants.
Mr. Hahn and Mr. Anello also contribute the successful start of the school year to the dedicated teaching, support and office staff. The teachers at Martin Road offer small group and differentiated instruction daily that utilizes student data to close the specific achievement gaps of their students. Mr. Hahn invites anybody in the community to stop in and see the great things happening at Martin Road!
