Lackawanna student wins Red Ribbon contest

Picture of representatives with check

A Lackawanna Middle School student is one of ten winners in the 2017 National Red Ribbon Photo Contest.

Seventh-grader Tasnim Alaji and her family decorated their front door with drawings and sayings to raise awareness on the importance of being drug-free. After receiving the highest vote total online for her entry in Region Two, Tasnim won an iPad for herself and $1,000 for the school to use in drug prevention.

Pictured with the ceremonial $1,000 check are, from left: Lackawanna Mayor Geoffrey Szymanski, Lackawanna Middle School Principal Bethany Schill, Tasnim, D.A. James McHugh and Lackawanna Police Captain Bob Jawnowski.

The Red Ribbon Campaign aims to educate the country’s youth on the dangers of drugs and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.
