As you may be aware, we are going to be migrating email services from Lotus Notes to Microsoft Outlook. This will begin TODAY, Thursday, February 25 at 2:00 pm. In addition to the change in the look and feel of email, our email address is changing as well from @lackawanna.wnyric.org to @lackawannaschools.org. Our District and BOCES have been working closely together to ease the transition to Microsoft Outlook.
FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions):
1) What about my emails?
Emails in Lotus Notes are preserved and will be available after the migration. Lotus Notes, however, will no longer be available.
2) How do I log in?
You will login by doing the following:
Go to http://LackawannaSchools.org, click Email link at top right hand corner of district home page
Enter username (first initial + last name + @lackawannaschools.org)
Enter password (this is the same password you use for computer login)
Click Sign in
3) Why are we doing this?
Our District has purchased a subscription to Microsoft products, including Office 365. This includes Microsoft Outlook.
4) Why are we doing this now?
We had planned on doing this at the beginning of the year. However, there was quite a bit of planning and preparing needed to move forward with this process. End of February became the most reasonable time for the transition.
Yes, really. The actual changeover is set to begin on Thursday, February 25 at 2:00 pm. At that point, email will be completely unavailable. The email migration will begin and continue through the weekend. On Monday, February 29, you should be able to access the new email service.
6) Why is my email different?
All of our email addresses have changed from @lackawanna.wnyric.org to @lackawannaschools.org. Our email accounts now match our district website domain name (http://LackawannaSchools.org)
7) Come on! It is Monday, February 29, and I can't log in to my email?
While we are expecting this migration to go smoothly, there is the possibility that a small number of accounts will have gone through the "stuff happens" experience. If you are having trouble logging in to Microsoft Outlook, call Service Now at 821-7460. They will need your name, school/district, and description of problem. Let them know we just migrated to Microsoft Outlook and that you are having trouble logging in.
8) Oh my gosh, what about my previous email address? How will anyone be able to email me?
Emails sent to your previous email address will arrive in your new email inbox. Please continue to notify those you correspond with that your email address has changed to your new @lackawannaschools.org email address.
9) What about my current emails? I am not panicking, I am just askin'.
Your current email, that is what you can currently see in Lotus Notes (excluding emails in the Archive One Eighty folder), will be migrated to your Outlook.
10) What about my older/archived emails? And no I am not hoarding emails.
Our district will be utilizing MailMeter as an email archival tool. The archived emails (emails currently available through Lotus Notes Archive One Eighty folder) will be migrated on March 1. I will send out a notification when this process has completed. The link for MailMeter will be available on the Apps for Staff page of our District website. The login for MailMeter: Username: your full email address, Password: your employee computer login password.
